Indestructible Hulk

Post by Stocky Boy »

Written by Mark Waid, like Daredevil and like Daredevil Banner is feeling positive and moving forward in life. This seems like it's long overdue and refreshing to see.

Banner has come to terms with the fact that he's tried loads of ways to control or rid himself of the Hulk and nothings worked so far. During all this time of trying to find a cure, he realises that he's dong bugger all with the brains he has. He has brains equal to the likes of Richards, Start, Pym, T'Challa etc. But, he's been contributing nothing to the world, and having observed this, he feels he ought to stop pursuing a cure for the Hulk and concentrate on building things, which people can remember him for.
"Hulk smash, Banner build" as Waid has Banner explain it to Maria Hill.
Banner has convinced SHIELD that he can be an asset to them as both the Hulk and Banner and so now he's working with them.. If they have a problem that needs the Hulk, they fire him out of a canon towards the problem. Whilst not Hulking out, Banner has hired four experts in scientific fields to help him research things.
This is a great new set-up for the Hulk!

INDUSTRUCTIBLE HULK #6
Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: Walkt Simonson

For the first story arc, the artist was Leinil Yu. This story features Thor, so presumably this is why Simonson is here. No idea if he's just a guest aritist for this arc.
Introduced last time was Banner's research recruits and the first project of exploring the potential of making use of a bit of uru metal that Thor kindly contributed to SHIELD.
Banner and team are off to Jotunheim to find a material, which Banner feels will be excellent at replacing our dependency on fossil fuels.
Obviously some fighting ensues and a meet up with a strangely costumed Thor. The cliffhangar ending is a nice indication, seemingly confirming that Banner has changed direction in life and worthy of admiration. Slight spoiler in 'worthy', by the way. :)

No one else reading Hulk?

INDESTRUCTIBLE HULK#7
Writer: Mark Waid
Artist: Walt Simonson

Part 2 of the Hulk and Team Banner trip to the asgardian realm, Jotunheim. They are off the find a precious metal, which they can use to better humanity and leave a nice legacy for Banner.
Turns out their method of transport not only sent them to another realm, but to another time.
Guest starring Thor, this seems like it's just a pit-stop story to allow guest artist Walt Simonson to draw Thor, while they presumably wait for Yu to catch up with whatever work he's doing?

Simonson does great action art, but it's a little blocky. I'm not a fan.

The story has a little twist to it. Not sure how long they intend to pursue this Jotunheim twist. I'm hoping it wraps up in this story arc.

What this issue has, of some dramatically good merit, is a revelation from one of the team members who is feeling suicidal. I suppose, someone like Banner might be good at picking up the signals. Her method of suicide though, is quite shocking. It's quite silly, but the revelation of it allows you to ignore the ludicrous.
