Hmm, well, not today but some days ago I got :

The complete Essex County HC by Jeff Lemire.
So many people vouching for this one from the SA guys to Darwyn Cooke. I don't know what to expect.

Doctor 13 TPB by Azz and Chiang.
This one I bought without planning. My LCS had an extra copy (very surprisingly, as they never get extra copies of TPBs) and I decided to pick it up, on the strength of the creative team. I don't have a clue what it's gonna be about.

Sleeper is frigging awesome!
I actually remember reading a bit of Point Blank from Arn's comic collection, when I first met him in France. Point Blank, for those of you who don't know, is the prelude to Sleeper. To mention the main plot to Sleeper actually spoils the ending of Point Blank, so I won't feed any more information. If you like Criminal, you'll fucking love Sleeper.
From the looks of it, Season 1 is a new reprint-edition-collection thing, since Season 2 won't be out until next month.

The last GL thing I've read was the Red Lantern arc. GL's pretty enjoyable. Bit hackneyed, but for what it is it's good value entertainment. I havne't bought the mini-series/one-shot collection called Tales from the Sinestro Corps. I've bought everything else starting with the No Fear trade. At some point I may buy Tales from the Sinestro Corps.

I got Essex County off of Arn's recommendation/previous post about it.

I've read Doctor 13. It's quite enjoyable. You wouldn't really think it was written by Azz, if you didn't know. I love Cliff Chiang's art. I saw someone get this signed by Cliff at NYCC09. When I saw that I wished I brought my copy too. I wonder how many people get this signed by Azz.

Sleeper! I brought that entire run in trade paperback maybe 1 1/2 years and I've still only read the first volume. I brought that on CountD's reccomendation, and I really, really should to finish that damn series.

Brought recently Scalped vol 4: Gravel In Your Gut and The Walking Dead vol the latest. Probably read those over the weekend.

I got a long box from a friend of mine who's going to South Korea to teach for a year. He gave it to me to hold onto and read anything I wanted to while he's gone, along with a small box of trades. Just went thru the long box and found a lot of the following:

and a few other things. I've only just organized them by letter and haven't figure out which issues of those books. I know it's not a complete run on things I'd like to read like Y and Walking Dead, but I know he handed me vol 2 and 3 of Walking Dead as well.

Anything in the little bit I mentioned taht jumps out to anyone as worthwhile?

Also, he has all but 2 issues of Alex Ross' Justice series, which absolutely breaks my heart because I've been wanting to read it for a very long time. issue 9 and 12 are absent.

Well he had DMZ 1-13 I think, but Y the Last Manhe has like 35-55, Invincible is about 25-40, and Walking Dead is about 17-37. As for Desolation Jones it's about the first 8 issues I think. I'll probably still go through and read them all, but I'm sure I'll be lost in a few parts. I wrote down everything I want to get thru and read and it's a fair sized list. I won't need to buy major trades for extra reading in the near future.

Pretty much, like books, there are some comics series I bought that I never got around to reading. I'll say 75% of original conent. 65% of the actual stuff after trades, double and stuff to collect.

I have also read about 75% of the books I own. Some shit you just never get around to. I also have a decent amount of books, 750 or so.

Like those 2 walking dead comics, I had them in trades, but I'm been plugging away at getting the entire run of walking dead since I quite like it, and I prefer single issues.

I will not however read them, are they are worth quite a bit and cost a fair bit, and I can just read the trades. Same goes for some silver age comics I own.

It is rare I buy a comic knowing I will not read it. Maybe 1 every six months.

God no, there would have to be a lot of grading done. I do however, occasionally check and see what some of my books or runs sell for, and it can be a solid chunk of change.

I don't like much about Marvel but I do like how they'll shove a lot of limited material into one omnibus like MK Punisher or Alias etc... I wish DC did that with some the runs on their titles like say...THE LOSERS? or Loveless?

Then today I scored big time. A local comic book store buys old comics, and never really goes through them except to pull out good silver age marvel and DC's, so you can find some golden stuff in there. Today though, he bought some Wolverines, ASM, Cap. A, and She-Hulks.

He cherry picked some ASM, and Wolverine 1, 10 and the first mini, but missed ASM 300, since it was bundled with the she-hulks.

So I found the old Wolverine VS Spider-Man (great comic) and a copy of amazing spider-man.

Price for both of them? $2 Canadian. So like, half a euro. WOOHOO!

Welcome to Tranquility 1-12, bundled together for all of $8. Not a bad deal. The shop down here is starting to put out collections of runs on books, with the actual issues of particular stories and things when they get them. I'm a few weeks away from nabing JLA: Another Nail for $10

I don't understand why more stores don't do that to clear out more stock.

Sell a few series at less than trade prices to clean out stock ot stories that wouldn't normally sell, seems like an easy idea to me.

It's a great idea, I agree. I love being able to get actual issues of some books rather than only getting trades, but hate it when they usually lack one or two issues. So when you have a full run, bundling them and selling them for a cheaper price is a great way to move them, and a great introduction deal for new readers or people looking to expand their interest.

They have the most recent Firestorm bound up in a few packages like that, but one of them is 7-11 and like.. another in the mid 20s. So I'd love to get it, but without the first storyline I'm hesitant.

It's also great for event books as well. Last year sometime they put out these kind of collections for House of M, Infinite Crisis, GL: Rebirth, and a few others. They sold higher, but they sold quick. I love the idea.

Half Price is having a 20% off sale, which I had no clue but found awesome. I went to tell Cap'n Jack about a Topsy Turvy Tomato Tree thing that's on sale for all his tomato plants and was surprised to see the huge sale. The automatic jewel I found was the 4 volume complete Onslaught Saga, each book just $15 before the extra 20% off. When I found Cap'n Jack to tell him about the stuff he told me to let him get the books so he can use his employee discount, so I got all the books for $30! What's ironic is that he had just paid me $30 for his share of the electric bill last month and I forgot to grab it when I went shopping (not a big fan of cash). Worked out perfectly, found it pretty funny.

The series is centered on Tara Chace, an operative of the Special Operations Section of SIS, colloquially known as the Minders. It attempts to portray the bureaucracy and politics which the agents deal with realistically, as well as including the dangerous missions typical of the spy genre.

The fit into the comics. One is to be read near the end of the series, between 2 storyarcs, and one is read at the end of the series.

They are not novelization. At one point the comics went on hiatus and Rucka told a very important chapter in the story of the characters in a book. Then the comics came back and told the story of the aftermath of the book. Then the comics stopped for good and Rucka told the further story in a second book.

I think Rucka says he is planning to return to Q&C comics but he wants to make sure there are as many issues done as possible before relaunching because he doesn't want the series to be plagued by delays.

A new book is supposed to come out in October.
