What are you looking forward to from Marvel this year?
I'm going to be looking forward to more from Paul Cornell!
He's still doing Captain Britain and MI 13 with Leonard Kirk and shall be doing Young Avengers with Mark Brooks.
Kind of looking forward to Secret Warriors. Issue 1 was quite interesting. Johnathan Hickman appears to be the new indie creator grab for Marvel and Casselli's (sp?) art has an appealing traditional and manga inspired blend to it. Colours are awesome too!
Oh and of course, I'm looking forward to Jason Aaron and Ron Garney doing a Wolverine series!
Hickman on FF sounds like it could be really great.

What else has Hickman done?
The Nightly News, A Red Mass for Mars, Pax Romana, Secret Warriors.

I'm interested in the War of Kings mini event. I've always liked the Inhumans, and I've been following them whenever I can, especially since Son of M and Silent War, and they were the only Secret Invasion series I read, and since I've been reading all the books with Vulcan since Havok has been in them, I'm interested in the two sides coming together. Other than that, I've got nothing really coming from them for me.

I've really fallen out of touch with Marvel so I don't know what big events they've got coming up. Nowadays all I know about Marvel is X-Men, UXM & DD.

Basically yea. Vulcan is planning on expanding, and after the conclusion of Inhumans Secret Invasion, Black Bolt now rules the Kree Empire. :D

I missed that.

I missed that.
How?
After the Royal Family rescued Black Bolt from the Skrulls, he decided to get pro-active.
In the Secret Invasion: War of Kings one-shot, Maximus basically hands the thrown back to Black Bolt, who decides to open a vault full of weapons that had been created by Maximus.. one of them was one that transforms BB's spoken word into pure energy and power.
The Inhumans uprote their city again and take flight into space, tracing Skrull ships and heading to the Kree homeworld. They unlease the weapon using BB's voice as a massive energy blast, destroying the Skrull fleet ships they found. Then he takes the fight to the Kree world, breaking through their defenses with the weapon, and upon confronting Ronan, the throne is given up to Black Bolt, who plans to make the Inhumans no longer the toys of any other race, but instead the rulling class.
I really like the Royal Family, and I'm interested to see how this runs about.

It's nice since this is something that actually could have a lasting change in marvel

I hope so. It seems that it's basically going to be the Shi'ar Empire, which Vulcan has been ever expanding, warring against the Kree Empire, who now have the Inhumans on their side, and will have the Starjammers helping them as well.
Other than the Inhumans, I read the core X-Men books.. but even those seem to be doing little lately.

What, moving to San Fran and doing nothing isn't cool?
Tragic Angelus
02-15-2009, 10:27 PM
Yea, exactly... the move was cool, bringing Magneto in was nice and then.. they've sat around their new digs and collected scientists.. I guess that's it.
I'm just hoping they get around to doing something, and soon.

When was the last time the X-Men had a good old fashioned beat down with some brightly clad group of super villians?

Honestly, I'm not really sure. Does the Messiah Complex count?
wolf_2099
02-15-2009, 10:59 PM
Probably not. I want another throwdown like fatal attraction, or the end of Morrison's run, or even Eve of Destruction...
So basically it seems I want Wolverine and Magneto to fuck each other up.
hrm.

I wouldn't mind a good battle royale in the X-books either.. I think they need it.

02-15-2009, 11:12 PM
Against who though?
Tragic Angelus
02-15-2009, 11:21 PM
Someone good.
Magneto would really be my best hope.. and maybe a decent Brotherhood team.. but I doubt that'll happen.
Or if a new Hellfire Club comes about with Shaw at the helm, I'd like to see how that could turn out.

Who awesome do they have other than Mags?
Sinister? Who is gone, and when was the last time they really fought him.
Apocylpse?
Sentinels? I could definatly go for sentinels.
Tragic Angelus
02-15-2009, 11:48 PM
Sentinels would be good if done right again as a sort of constant pain in the neck, almost foot soldier type of enemy.
Apocalypse could be good if done right with his Horsemen again, instead of having nearly EVERY X-Man becoming a horesmen like they've been doing.
Sinister is now Ms. Sinister.. it was a storyline in X-Men Legacy where he had tampered with Cain Marko, Xavier, and Sebastian Shaw and some other new character when they were younger, and made it so that if his body died, his conscience would go into one of them. Marko's helmut protected him, the 4th died in a mental institution, and Shaw had a machine protecting him.. Xavier defeated the 'infection' and some lady got it instead, and Shaw invited her to join his new Hellfire Club if I recall right.
Hell, even if they upgrade a newer enemy.. or bring in some other big level villain, I think I'd be happy if done right.

Dark Phoenix!
Dark Phoenix!
They'll be duking it out with Magneto again. Fraction has plans for him.

I'd love to see another real Dark Phoenix battle again as well.
Yea, I know they plan to get Magneto back in action, but isn't it within a year or more? I'm kinda not wanting to wait a year for a battle royale when we havn't had one in awhile as it is.

Even the latest Original Sin thing with Xavier, Miss Sinister, Sebastian Shaw and Wolvie blew. How does that happen?

I didn't get the Wolverine issues, so it really didn't make sense to me. I just hate having to pick up like one or two issues of a book I don't even read for a four part storyline.
Things I'm looking forward to :
Definitely the new Wolverine book by Aaron.
I'll be getting the FF once Hickman jumps onboard, especially with Eaglesham drawing.
I'll be following the main Avengers titles to see where Dark Reign is going.
I must say I have very little interest at the moment for the X-books. I keep piling them up on my hard disk but can't find the motivation to read them.

Don't find it. They aren't worth it. Unless it's X-Factor. Which is phenominal.
Old Man Logan is the only other good x-book at the moment I find.
Although I do get a kind of 90's nostalgia enjoyment from x-force.
Speaking of nostalgia, I'm really on the fence about getting that new New Mutants ongoing.
I really love the characters (Cannonball and Sunspot for the win!) but I've never read anything by Zeb Wells and Diogo Neves is an unknown to me.

I am not a fan of what I have read of Zeb Wells, he did some spidey stuff. Never heard of the other guy either.
I'd never even heard of this before now.

Cannonball is really the only character I'm interested in on that team, so I don't think I'll be picking it up. I do think it's cool that they're putting what's close to the original team back together.

Presumably the mansion in SF with other characters we haven't seen since the move.. like Iceman. I really liked the team up thing they were doing with the two of them.

02-16-2009, 02:11 PM
Fuck. I really really want to see more Iceman. He is a great, underutilized, powerful character.
One of my favorites.
Tragic Angelus
02-16-2009, 02:13 PM
Agreed. I could use less Angel and more Iceman in the books.

I've always wanted to see a huge Iceman/Magneto show down. I think it could be very cool.
Iceman is boring, although not as boring as Storm.
Anyway, apaprently Fraction has long-term plans for Magneto, so I figure it'll be a plotline that'll resolve in a year or so.

Too long! Far too long!
Well, I'll end up downloading New Mutants and get the trades if it's any good.
