Anyone feel that DBE may end up being a reasonably enjoyable film, but think, really, skinny american boy as the lead?

From what I've heard, the movie should be really good...
...you know, in that "it's so bad it's great" sort of way. ^_^
I'm waiting to see the commercials before I decide if I'm gonna see it in theatres.

i love dragonball, but i dont trust hollywood.

Yeah, it seems that all the characters are going to be pale imitations of themselves, where the actual homage to DBZ will really just be the Dragonballs, cut-and-paste bits of the characters and the team comes togeter comraderie. The world / cinematography might be the biggest part of the film that's true to the book/anime though.
It will be interesting to see how the establish the backstory though. There was about 170 episode of dragonball before dragonball z.

No freaking kidding. I wonder if they are actually gonna choose a one of the story arcs to focus on, or if their just gonna stir plots together?
Oh, and I've read that originally the character of Piccolo wuz gonna just look like a "strange human", bald with fangs and different coloured eyes and stuff.
Go fig, they make James Marsters look like an ancient vampire.
BTW, what gall from these movie producers! I mean really.
But apparently James, the actor portraying Piccolo is a big fan of the show and he INSISTED on being green with antenni even though it requires him to arrive for makeup everyday hours early.
You know, like it should have been all along.
Is piccolo the villain or is it the more reformed version?
Im rewatching the eps(lot of spare time) and i'm slap bang in the middle of the king piccolo arc (ep 113)

As I understand it, they are skipping Emperor Pilaf, the Red Ribbon Army, etc, and Piccolo (the old-guy version) is gonna be the main villian.
cool, i'd imagine that theres no martial arts tournament. what about later villains, will vegeta be in in?

Maybe if it makes enough money to warrant a sequel?
When I heard about the movie being made, I assumed that it would have the tournament in it as well. From the sounds of it, it will not be included though.

Also, I see that they decided to cast an actor to play Goku who reflects the character's squinty-eyed innocent stupidity, instead of his wide-eyed innocent curiousity. :rolleyes:

That's a good point. I'd still play if friends did though. I would be named OverNinethou and that joke would never NEVER NEVER get old.
But all the kiddies running aorund, oh my god. It'd be worse than being on the Alliance in WoW.

I've heard that it's okay for what it is: generic kids film based around the Dragonball series. This is to say, not a film adaptation of the manga.
Ultimately pointless from a creative sense, but commercially I bet it's sound.
I'm very tempted to watch it.

If I could find a decent link, I'd send it to you. The one I found was minus the first 20 minutes of the movie and skipped in a place or two.
Kids might like it I guess. Biscuits on the other hand... :sweatdrop:

Man, when did I stop watching grown-up films?
I still think I'm gonna go see this film...I understand it isn't gonna be real true to the manga or cartoon...but I'll keep my ear to the ground to see if I hear or see anything that pisses me off.
I don't need to shell out cash to rage-out in a movie theatre. >_<

Ah well. Call me bitter but I think most of the films out there are less about telling a story and more about tricking you into the theatre. Huff!
